Hi, I'm looking for a particular book, but would be interested in any book that deals with the history /anthropology of early native american culture of Ohio and the near by states. The book I am looking for is The Ohio Gateway, by D.E. Crouse. It was published in 1938 by Charles Scribner's Sons, NY Anyone else out there interested in this topic? Tracy

A lot has changed about the knowledge of the Ohio area native americans since 1938. I would recommend trying to find a more recent book. I am interested in this topic, but I am only interested in reading a more recent book. I could recommend a couple of books on the Iroquois. Here are a couple of books that fit into this topic:
I tend to be more interested in the later history of that region when it comes to Native Americans fighting to retain their land in the Ohio Valley. BTW, I found the citations for the above books by browsing the categories here: http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/subcategory.php?c=H&s=GROUP |

O'Donnell, James H., III. Ohio's First Peoples. Athens: Ohio University Press, 2004. Dr. O'Donnell was one of my history professors in college! (I was a history major.) A great guy, and very knowledgable about Native American/Ohio history. |
