An Old-Fashioned Girl
An OldFashioned Girl
Author: Louisa May Alcott
Polly Milton never questions the way she is until she visits her cousins in the city. Her cousin Fanny looks too glamorous to be Polly's age, and wouldn't be caught dead playing in the snow. Will Polly ever learn to be like the other girls? And does she even want to? Sometimes being old-fashioned is right in style.

One of my favorite books by Alcott, an Old-Fashioned Girl ought to be read by every fan of Little Women. It tells about how a country girl spends the summer with her city friend. Extollig the values of simplicity and the innocence of girlhood, the reader will fall in love with this little girl who learns that old-fashioned is not a bad thing.

This is the story of Polly Milton, an old fashioned girl. It begins when she is 14 years old, with a stay with her town, up-to-date friend Fanny Shaw and her family, by whom she is looked down upon as a backwards country girl. But things change as they get older, and Fanny begins to see how much better Polly's old-fashioned ways really are.

Alcott wrote for the high school age girl of her day (1870s). Her books are still relevant for the girl who wants to live an adventurous, ethical life fulfilling her full potential. Polly Milton visits rich friends and almost falls for the fashionable world surrounding her. Yet somehow she clings to her "country" ways and ends up finding out they are really the best. Written with humor, sympathy, and an eye for an interesting plot - this is a good story.

This is by Louisa May Alcott- a tale of a country girl who is out of her element staying with a rich, city family, but as she grows older, wiser (and richer) is able to help them as they fall on hard times

Loved this book! It is very well written, just like Little Women. Wonderful character development, though I think I missed something about Mr. Sydney in the beginning. He was too well hidden with the other descriptions of the young-men in Fannie's world. Polly is wonderful and keeps to what her parents taught her, and she is very much admired for it. I don't know that I'm considered old-fashioned, but I would love my daughter to learn to develop her character rather than her make-up technique!
