You may have read part of this memoir in shorter form. I know I did. A book lover emailed me one of Queenans essays on books, reading, and how Queenan will never own a Kindle. This book memoir continues and expands these themes, something I hoped for when I asked for it for Christmas (and live in fear of future Christmases when I will not be able to get real books, the only gift I want for the holidays). He writes about the books he owns, his reluctance to part with them, his reading habits, the libraries and books stores hes known and loved as well as ones less beloved. But mostly he writes about how reading is an immensely important part of his life. Highly recommended, but please dont read it on a Kindle (although, ironically, you can there is a Kindle version. Wonder what Joe Queenan thinks of that?).
