The greatest weakness of the average player is his opening lead. And yet no part of the game is more important. The choice of the opening lead, over and over again, determines whether the contract is made or set. There are only a few fundamental principles governing opening leads that are based on common sense and the experience of generations of whist and bridge players. A player who understands these principles can select the best available lead from any hand.
Defending partners can exchange a good deal of information about their hands by giving certain universally accepted conventional signals. They are quite simple and easy to learn.
This book is offered as a text for learning or teaching the conventional leads and signals. Every effort has been made to make this study as easy as possible. The principles and rules are simplified and condensed. The material is logically arranged into 16 short lessons, 11 lessons on opening leads, and 5 lessons on signals. Then there are 24 quizzes illustrated by bridge hands with questions and answers on opening leads and signals followed by a short summary of the rules for leads and signals.« less
