Well, this was an exceedingly difficult and uncomfortable read. Lovelace holds nothing back. Her story is extremely graphic, unrelenting and horrendous. But, it's an important book because she got to tell her side of the experience. Not for the squeamish, not for the prudish, not for the faint of heart, this book is not for anyone unless you really want to know. I'm giving it four stars because I think the book has value, but it was tough to get all the way through to the end, and believe me it is not for everyone.

**** Four stars.

As others have mentioned, this is a difficult book to read due to the subject matter and it's definitely not for everyone. I actually read it very quickly because I enjoyed her writing style and I was anxious to see what happened. The story itself is harrowing and recounts years of her life that were an absolute living nightmare. She deserved to have the platform to tell her side of the story and, difficult to read or not, I'm glad she was able to do that. She had a child before she passed away and I think it's so important that her child (along with the rest of the world) found out the truth of her ordeal. She was just a kid herself when everything started with Chuck and she came from a dysfunctional home- things like this happen all of the time. I'm glad she eventually got away from him before he was able to take her life, as is unfortunately so often the outcome in situations like this. And I'm glad she was able to see what true love was like with her husband. She was a survivor and I'm glad I got to hear her story. I'm shocked that there was never any criminal charges against Chuck but that was a different time. May he (and all the others out there who are just like him) burn in hell.
