I've posted here before that I love my neighborhood post office.  They are friendly and efficient and they never give me any grief about all of my packages.  I work a half week, and so I make an effort to consolidate my mailings so that I can go to the neighborhood P.O. on my off days.

Well, I had some books that were due to send before the next time I could get to the neighborhood P.O., so I sucked it up and (gasp) went to ANOTHER post office today!  Does anyone else feel an extreme loyalty to a particular P.O. branch?

Well, living in Chicago I find most of the post offices around me to be similar--each seems to have one or two really bad employees that you avoid at all costs, a few that are mediocre, and one or two that are efficient and helpful.  Not that they all work at the same time, of course--there are never more than 2 or 3 clerks working at a time no matter how busy the place is.  I recently had occasion to ship some books from a suburban post office, and found 4 windows open--all of the employees were smiling and polite, and worked much faster than the Chicago employees.  So, sadly, I don't have a loyalty to any particular post office here.

I live in a city with one PO and it is a GREAT PO.  I went there for the first time today and had to get postage for a Boxer book.

They are just great there!!!!

I have a great PO down the street and rarely do I ever have to go to another PO to do any business.  thank goodness because mine has an APC and that is how I do a majority of my mailings unless they are overseas or much larger (which is rare)

It's a really funny question for me.  I have the one that's really tiny but close and they scrutinize everything....are you sure you're mailing a book?  And then there is the nicer one that is close to me...how are you honey??  Then there is the one that I go to on lunch with the huge line...next!  Then there is the one that I run into at 6:55 (they close at 7PM) and hi, they are all set and barely get a nod.  But all my books make it ok...  I don't think any of the post offices I use realize how much I actually mail out.  And the books under 13oz just get tossed in the blue bin.  My post office delivery guy, Bob, who has delivered our mail for over 20 years, has told my mom that I have one of the best internet addictions that he has seen.

Hey!  My mail carrier is named Bob, too.  You aren't stealing him out from under my nose are you, Jennie?

Actually, he's out having his knee replaced.  One downfall of the job, I suppose.

I think my post office is cute and quaint, but I don't use it.  The lines are way too long and since I ride the bus, it takes a couple to get there.  I use the post office that's closer to me but not in my zip code and only a short bus ride away.  They have an APC and they are open later at night and on Saturdays.

I'm torn... my zip has my fantastic carrier but the other zip is better on all the other counts.

No way!  Bob has been our mail man for as long as I can remember, since I was at least 6.  I am very happy that some post offices open at 7Am, while others stay open until 7PM.

i tend to use the one near the house now that my printer doesnt work..lol. my only problem is that i know the holiday lines are coming and I usually go on my way to work. I dont wanna leave an hour early for work to make the PO..so I will likely start going to the 24 hour one at the airport after work.once holiday season fully starts.

The disadvantage of living in a small town (1,000+) is the PO hours...closes at 4:30 week-days and noon on Saturday.  On the plus side, not much wait-in-line time so plenty of chance for conversation, plus the town library is right across the street.  Handy!

My neighborhood P.O. is only open on weekdays (no Saturdays!) and closes at 4:30.  That's why I consolidate the mailings for the days I'm not working.  Of course there are other P.O.s around with longer hours (we even have one of the 24-hour airport post offices), but they are definitely the last resort for me!  I like to go to the P.O. where they know me by name.  :->

J.C. - I've lived in MIchigan all my life but don't know where Hamilton is.  Upper or Lower?  I am near Port Huron near the Thumb.
