This hero isn't obsessive-compulsive like "Monk" of TV fame. He's manic-depressive (now called bi-polar). How his quite ordinary new partner (he doesn't keep them long) learns to cope and how the two manage to solve crimes anyway is offbeat entertainment indeed.

A odd English mystery about murder at a cricket match.

This mystery, involving Inspector Don Packham and his partner, Frank Mitchell, centers around a murder at a cricket match. A man is bashed by a baseball bat. The suspects are the victim's wife, an American, an Irish comedian, but the murderer comes as a surprise after much investigation by the pair of detectives. Very interesting read.
