We used this book when our teenage son entered juinor high school and found new friends who were the "cool kids" ,who smoked, drank and cut school whenever they got the chance. A guidance counselor at the school reccomended this book. We used it all through his junior high and high school years. Sometimes I wanted to hit him with it. But we were persistent and never gave up. He is now a teacher at a community college. He taught at a middle school for a while but said there were too many brats "like I used to be". He said that STEP/Teen should be required reading for parents of teens.
