In mixing bowl, cream sugar and peanut butter til well blended.  Add egg and vanilla, and beat til blended.  Roll into 1 1/4 inch balls.  Place 2 inches apart on ungreased (I use parchment paper) cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 for 10-12 min., or until stops are slightly cracked.  Immediately press 1 chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.  Cool on cookie sheet for 5 min. before removing to wire racks.
