  One dirty penny sits
under the couch
alone and forsaken
forgotten in the darkness

it sits,
worthless in its current position

while the nickels, dimes
and quarters are found
it lies nestled
among the dust bunnies
and toenail clippings

wishing it was
something else
wishing someone
would see its worth

hoping that someone
might one day
see the shine
beneath the tarnished surface

wanting the day to come
when it will be worth
getting picked up
by someone

waiting to be more
more than just
a lucky heads up penny

It waits in the darkness
for the day to come
when it will be
worthy of the light

Very good. Even though it's a story about a penny, it is still pretty sad. I think I'll read it again. Keep up the good work :]
