Did anyone else read this book and really enjoy it as I did?  Seems to me if you liked Snowflower you would also like this one!

It's the best book I've read so far this year. I posted a review: http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9781400064663-Peony+In+Love

Ohhhhhhhhhh so sorry - I didn't like this book at all!!!!!  I SO looked forward to it and bought it brand new.  I read it but I didn't enjoy the story at all!!!!  I tried to like it - honest I DID!   I just did not like Peony alive or dead!   BTW - I loved Snow Flower!    I passed this book along the day I finished with it.

I read it as an ARC for review over at Library Thing. I thought it was okay, but liked Snowflowr MUCH better. Peony, to me, was a "silly little girl" and I had a difficult time relating to her on any level, but the whole storyline that featured the beliefs of death and afterlife and such for the Chinese culture and the historical aspects and all that was fascinating. I gave it a B if I remember right.

Hi All,

I loved Snowflower and the Secret Fan. I have read and reread it so many times. I had a bookstore gift card and bought Peony the day it came out. I read the first 60 pages and quit. Then i returned it to the store--something i NEVER do. Just had to get rid of it. What a disappointment

Hello!  LOVED Snow Flower...Peony was OK.  It was fascinating to read about the Chinese beliefs of life after death, but I think after Snow Flower I was expecting something a bit more realistic, I think.

I am so relieved that I'm not the only one who didn't care for Peony.   I thought the writing was beautiful - Lisa See has a way with words that I love - but I just found Peony to be such a silly silly girl and/or ghost.    The beliefs of the young girls in that Chinese time was the main thing that I found interesting but even that was in no way close to what was in Snow Flower, in my opinion.
