I wanted to like this book, but it was a huge disappointment. Having never read the author's blog, I assumed the book would be sort of fun and self-deprecating. I'm a reluctant soccer mom in her early 40s who's never bothered to get her kids into the "right" summer camp/dance group/play group, so it seemed like this book would be right up my alley. Sadly, the book just isn't funny. The author and her husband come across as horrible, narrow-minded, mean-spirited people. Every conversation and confrontation reads as horribly fake and contrived. And honestly, the author herself comes across as exactly the type of mom she's trying to make fun of. She mocks the other moms for getting up at 4 in the morning to get their kids into the "right" dance camp, but then she herself opts to let her child be bullied because the bully's mom can get her into the "right" book group. She ridicules the other moms, yet over and over again, she goes to them for advice and jumps through hoops to get their approval. When she attains that approval, she points out how successful she is, and when she falls short, she decides it's everybody's else's fault and resorts to name-calling. Overall, I found the book to be petty, childish, extremely hypocritical, and not one bit funny.
