Overall, I enjoyed this first book in a series featuring David Slaton, one of those extraordinary heroic type lead characters that always manages to accomplish the impossible with remarkable ease. The plot is at least on the edge of believability and the supporting characters, though a bit two-dimensional, are nevertheless interesting. I do believe it suffers a bit from that flaw that so many otherwise gifted authors make by going off on tangent detail journeys in an effort to create a complex novel out of what could have been a crisp, much faster-paced shorter story. Even so, and even in spite of what I felt to be a somewhat disappointing ending, I found it to be a four-star read that left me wanting to read the next book in the series.
