An excellent short fantasy story. It is the second book in the Tartan Magic Trilogy. Jane Yolen is always a delightful read.

The middle book of a three-book series of fantasies based on Scottish history and folklore. This one features three American children visiting their grandmother, who (perhaps) is a witch. Included are a talking dog, a talking horse and a Pictish princess from the past. About third-to-fourth grade reading level.
