A very involved book with good descriptions of the meanings of the cards. Also has history of the tarot and a bibliography.

ONe of the best books on Tarot available. Waite centers on Tarot as a vehicle of transformation, (Jung's Individuation) of the individual.
Waite's explanations are a refreshing, (and surely the original), context for reading the Tarot as a personal developmental tool instead of as a Divination, fortune-telling tool or even a card game.
He goes in depth into original meanings of the Major Arcana and explains that they are most likely from an earlier source than the four suits of the minor Arcana (which are akin to regular playing cards).
This book is a valuable tool for understanding Jungian psychology. It is also an eye-opening companion to have in one's library beside another great Tarot book; "Tarot Revelations" by Joseph Campbell and Richard Roberts.
Both wonderful reads for folks who would like to understand some of the underpinnings of comparative dogmas and religions throught Europe and the middle east. Ie., an understanding of the root symbols of Gnostic, Hermetic, Christian, Templar, Druid, Celtic religions.
The 22 cards of the Major Arcana form an ancient key to understanding man's spiritual journey. This key has been handed down in the forma of pictorial symbols through and in spite of inumerable cultures over the ages, with the capacity to communicate beyond boundaries of literacy and political bias.
Read this book and gain an understanding of the spiritual journey of mankind's true connection to the universal forces of the 'higher' self.
