I received this book days before starting an introduction to Pilates course at a studio. Having a book to refer to while taking the class was very helpful, and "Pilates: Body in Motion" was especially useful. The focus of this book is on "classic" pilates. The book is organized with an introduction to "Contrology" (Joseph Pilates' initial term for the exercises) and a concise explanation of terms and techniques. Color photographs are used throughout to illustrate the series of movements, which are arranged from introductory up to advanced exercises. Props like the ring are shown in the advanced chapter, though I wish there was mention of additional props, especially the stretchy band (not sure of the official name) which I used early on because I could barely lift myself up to complete the book's introductory exercise. Overall, this is a good book to refer to even if you don't take a face-to-face class since the author provides plenty of information to assist the reader through every aspect of an exercise.
