An unbelievable story of a fascinating man who spent over two-thirds of his life roaming the oceans of the world, traveling over 200,000 miles doing so. His scientific observations of sea and currents, fauna and flora, and peoples won him the respect of the British Navy and British scientists.

He lived as a buccaneer preying on Spanish ships and towns, a British naval officer on scientific expeditions and tradesman. His journals, of such importance to him that he saved them from ship wreaks, helped him create the travel journal industry of the 17th century. These journals also introduced numerous words into the English language.

What an adventure his life was!
