This enrichment program directed at gifted 4th-6th graders is also a great curriculum to use to motive learning disabled students. The high interest topics of pirates, explorers and trailblazers are wonderful to use to push lower performing students as well.
I used this curriculum as a Unit Study for both learning disabled and gifted students. We covered the short stories/vinettes and activities in the resource book in the classroom setting. We then expanded beyond the curriculum with outside reading of novels and non-fiction resources. Each child could use outside resources appropriate to thier own reading level. We then came back together as a class and shared what each student did on their own. We also added in games and movies appropriate to the topic. I was able to use this resource book as a framework for a full year of history curriculum.
I have posted many books we used to complement this program here on Paperbackswap and DVDs on DVDswap.
