The book was published in 1994 and presents a gruesome look at the HIV Virus gone wild.
Look into a world where, an "infectee" will be sent to a quarantine camp and there is mandatory testing of the general public. There are even "death machines" where an infected can decide to spare themselves the inevitable and often painful death by taking that step before their bodies break down.
We see an America where civilization has broken down, becoming lawless and caring not at all for our fellow man.
The un-infected can be conscripted to serve in the quarantine camps - doctors, nurses sent whereever officialdom decrees and not likely to return. There are no cures.

From the book: " If objective reality no longer undergirded society, if absolutes no longer glued civilization together, then human opinion reigned. Ethics replaced morality, "positive" and "negative" supplanted good and evil, and behavior was never wrong, merely "inappropriate".

Sounds very familiar of our own world right now in 2012! The author's words make OUR descent into the pit of "inappropriate behaviours" seem more than merely a change in attitudes.

The book was written with Christian values but is not preachy so don't avoid it because it contains some religion.

I highly recommend this book - a great read and in some ways, a must read. This book will haunt you!
