An odd sort of book, The Playdate has its ups and downs. Set in a London suburb, it is slow going at times, but I plugged on because honestly, I was curious about what might happen right around the corner. I'm glad I read it to the end, it was worth it. The story tells of a single mom Callie, a struggling divorcee who has a frail little girl and a scorching secret. Her best friend, actually her ONLY friend is Suzy, an American from Colorado, mother of three small boys, wife of Jez, and very protective of Callie. But is she just a tad too protective? There is also Debs, strange, extremely private, afraid of everything, and hiding some dark secrets of her own. The three women's lives converge, and intertwine. There is mystery, tragedy, lust, and revenge. It ends up being a pretty good read. I can honestly say that I enjoyed most of it, and breezed through the few paragraphs I didn't completely enjoy. I'm only giving it three and a half stars because of those pesky, boring, few paragraphs.

I could not put down this psychological thriller! Life in the London neighborhood of Ally Pally isn't exactly as it seems. The attached, very nice row homes are hiding secrets inside, that come out slowly and unexpectedly. Several unlikely neighbors intersect lives, with some disastrous results. You will never see it coming!
