I love Coomer's writing style. This is one big book, 416 pages with loads of interesting characters and the usual ups and downs of life. I might have preferred it if it was just a bit shorter, it felt to me like there were so many parallel stories going on that it bogged down at times. That said, it was not hard to keep track of what was happening, and this is a very appealing book.

This is a wonderful and beautiful book. A lone woman on an island suddenly is taking care of a teenage child, not hers and protecting him from an abusive father. A stray dog is rescued from the ocean and now lives with her. Her half sister who she never really knew invites herself to live on the island when she becomes pregnant. The story unfolds piece by piece and comes full circle. Careers are made and lost, as well as, friendships. It's happy and sad and I embraced it. The characters are well drawn and come alive on the page. It takes place in Maine and you'll learn a lot about fishing, boating, and the seasons on an island. I couldn't stop reading.

Beautifully written story about finding and forming family out of an unlikely mix of people. Quirky characters who by book's end feel like family to the reader. May seem slow for some who like more action in their books, but this is a wonderful story, wonderful setting, wonderful characters - all put together by a very talented writer.

I enjoyed the book and found the story very entertaining. I liked how the lives of everyone was tied together. Good ending.

Really enjoyed this book. The scenery was fascinating and characters were believable with problems most of us do not contend with in our everyday life. A good book for conservationist attitudes, Maine enthusiasts.

A little slow moving.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved how a real family formed within the characters. The story seemed like waves coming inland: some waves brought all the characters and then, waves swept them all back again. I was sad when the story ended and found myself thinking about the characters for days afterward.
