Poor Things Episodes from the Early Life of Archibald McCandless MD Scottish Public Health Officer - A Harvest Book
POOR THINGS revises the story of FRANKENSTEIN by replacing the traditional "monster" with Bella Baxter--a young erotomaniac brought back to life with the brain of a child. Satirizing the classic Victorian novel, POOR THINGS is a hilarious political allegory and a thought-provoking contrast between the ambition of men and the knowledge of women.

Wonderfully strange and elegantly fascinating, each character in this novel holds true to their enigmatic formlessness. Bella Baxter, whose endearing innocence and erotic-maniacal tendencies leave the reader aching for a redemption. The pacing increases, as Bella seems to mature from infancy to middle age and our hapless narrator can only suffer as he watches life, in all that Bella represents, slip away from him. In the end, the reader is grateful that their are claims that this entire story is false.
