checking to see what you all think since its a possible. The book is in over all good condition. but when you open it, it opens directly to a set of pages, as the binding is snapped there and several of the pages are starting to come up from the binding. Would you report this book with a problem?

Since the pages are loose (at least it sounds like thats what you mean) then its against guidelines right there but if you can see the binding of the book in that gap between the pages then its a cleaved spine and agains guidelines as well.

Well, I would say it depends on how "loose" the pages are.  The help center says that it's ok for the book to open up at a certain place, but not ok to have loose pages:

-----------------------

Binding:

  • Must be intact, with no separation on the inside or outside of the book
  • If the book tends to open at a particular page, this is OKAY
  • Small amount of fraying or denting at top or bottom is OKAY

Pages:

  • No torn pages
  • No loose or missing pages

----------------------------------------------------------

If the pages are loose, then it's a problem.  If they look like they "will" come loose, then maybe not.

If I recall correctly, as the discussion ended, it was decided that if the spine isn't broke, the pages are attached, and it simply falls open to that page, it is ok.

But, if the spine is completely broke to the outer cover and the pages are loose, it is not ok.

It is a super fine line, and my opinion on my own books is to not send them and make someone else figure out, like you, if it is good or not. My personal opinion, is that every book has a last user, and you are it. This appears to be on it's last leg, and unfortunately you are it. Read it, enjoy it, and then dispose of it, because the pages will be loose for the next reader.

JMHO but if they are attached, I don't consider that "loose" loose to ME means "not attached"

Well to me it doesnt just open to that page. While its not all the way broken though the spine is broken and now that I look closer you can see the clear crease of it on the outside I suppos I would call it cleaved.

I said loose, because they are Dettaching at the bottom. the top of the pages are still attached, but the bottom is coming up where its broken.

And..yeah I wouldnt be passing this one on..
