So, I finally bought myself a small scale, so I'll know which packages need to be taken into the PO. I figured a bonus would be that I could weigh all my books, and figure out which ones could go first class cheaper then MM. I mailed a book today that weighed 6 ozs. According to the USPS website, Media Mail would be $2.47, but FC would be $1.96. Does that sound right? I put $2.13 on it, because I didn't want it to show up postage due. I clicked that it was a package at first, and that's where the $2.47 came from, but when I realized my error and switched it to large envelope, it didn't give MM as an option!

that sounds about right...books will be considered packages (even if in an envelope) because they arent bendy . I was able to get one of the new rate booklets when they were giving them out when the rates changed (it has been a god send. ) here is the first class rates (remember it is weight not over) for packages: 1 oz $1.13 2 oz $1.30 3 $1.47 4 $1.64 5 $1.81 6 $1.98 7 $2.15 8 $2.32 (its 17 cent per ounce up to 13) |

A 6 oz. book would cost $2.13 via media mail or $1.98 via first class. |

Also a 7 oz book cost just 2 cents more and will probably get there faster. |

Kerrie, the $2.47 you quote for media mail would be for up to 2 pounds....should be $2.13 for up to 1 pound. The first class is still cheaper though, at the weight you are at. |
