Hi there.
I'm brand new to PBS and while I was perusing the site trying to figure everything out I noticed one of the books I posted (by ISBN) is also listed elsewhere as not available. The book is Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille and the ISBN is 9780446579674. The other listing shows the title as 'The Wild Fire' and with a different ISBN number. Since this is in fact the same book how can I get the people that are waiting for it to know it's available?
Thank you so much for your time. I hope I haven't totally confused you. I don't know the lingo yet for this service/site.

If you head over to the book bazaar there is a thread there for "books with different ISBN #'s"  You can post over there that you have book X w/ but with a different ISBN #. If anyone is interested they'll come check out your shelf and order from you.

You cannot access any members wish list.  So the answer above is correct.  You can advertise it in the Book Bazaar.  The Help Center says:

  • Start topic with the name of the book and and the words "Different ISBN available" in the topic title
  • Describe the book in the post itself
  • You can access the Book Bazaar by searching the Discussion Forums, Book Bazaar is one of the forums

I did some research on your book and I did find it posted with your lSBN  the other books that were on wish lists were an audio cassette, a paperback, and another hardcover published by a different publisher.

Good Luck!

There is a mechanism in place that notifies those who have a different version of the book wishlisted by e-mail when a "similar" book is listed to the system, if people have that feature enabled. But keep in mind that some people only want the version that they have wishlisted.  I have several on my WL that I want in hardcover for my keeper shelf, so being notified of a paperback version in the system does nothing for me--I've already read it!

This is why, although it might be tempting, to always list the books you're putting out there by ISBN if it has one, and use the "Post a book without ISBN" if it doesn't--I've had a couple of bad transactions where people listed the book by author/title and NOT ISBN and got a paperback version with a different ISBN instead of the one I wanted. Not good, and those would be marked when received as "wrong book."

The system is supposed to email people when a dif version of their WL book is posted on the site.  Put it in your signature and make posts on the forum-especially in the books genre.  Post it on the Book Bazaar page.

The ISBN number that you gave in your initial post is the ISBN-13, but I beleive PBS uses the ISBN 10.  Look on the informtion page for the 10 digit ISBN number, and then try searching by that.  Or go to Amazon and type in the ISBN 13, and it will bring the book up and also list the ISBN 10.  ISBN 13s are fairly new, and not all books have them.

Jocely,  is your book the hardcover version or a paperback? I'm #1 on the wishlist for the paperback. I know there are several copies of the hardback in the system.  oh I see yours is the hardcover.

PBS will recognize both the 10 and 13 digit ISBN number of books.

Thank you for your guidance.  I've posted it on tha Bazaar forum.  I understand about not wanting a paperback when you really want a hardback.  Thing is, it's a hardback and there's 7 people on the wish list for a HB.

Hi Jocelyn,

I took a quick look and this is a classic case of how badly that "different version" thing actually works.  Because it doesn't work that well!  There are 27 copies in PBS of your ISBN, yet there are numerous other ISBN's wait listed, including one other hardback ISBN.

You did the right thing to post it in the Book Bazaar - but don't fret, it will get requested soon!  Just give the system a bit of time for someone to find it.

Welcome to PBS and we hope you enjoy swapping!
