ISBN 1405452870 - While I agree that you can learn almost anything from a book, I'm not seeing potty training as one of those things. I could be wrong, however.

Jack comes across his potty and wonders what it is. After trying a few ideas, including putting it on his head and finding it's not a hat, Jack's mother comes to explain the potty. Moments later, Jack has successfully used the potty, giddily telling his mother to look what he did. He also learns to wipe, pull his pants up, wash his hands and get a big hug for a job well done.

I cannot, seriously, read this book without cracking up. For one thing, the kid puts his potty on his head - is this something we want to encourage a kid to do? Then there's "...it's POTTY TIME!", as if this were an event for which we ought to invite spectators. I realize we encourage children, but this seems a tad silly. And that the kid's got to go seconds after learning what a potty is for, well, I know a kid will buy that, but it's still silly to me. Last, the giddy "Look what I did!" after he's used the potty... really necessary? Apparently author Kathryn Smith thinks so; I could live without it.

If you're one of those parents who feel the need to cheerlead when your kid manages to use a potty, this book might work for you (if you use the words pee and poop, because that's what the book uses). Other than that group, I'm pretty sure most kids can learn without a book that will only cause him extensive embarrassment when, years from now, someone finds it still on his shelf because you forgot about it.
