I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The base story line of shifters either being recruited by the military or military men being turned into shifters is not new. But Tyler adds her own twists with a cast of extras that really made this book sweet. I know sweet doesn't sound like its a passionate romantic story. But its the best way I can describe it. Kira falls head first into this world and seems to roll with the otherworldly changes like a true champ. Jax has a lot of regret to overcome and can't quite seem to come to terms with his feelings for Kira. They seem to almost have this first love, kind of thing going. Sweet really, but their passion breaks through all his hangups and they let passion take its course. Throw in the cast of paranormal refugees, Blue and Chup Chup, and its a very charming, almost simple book (even with the rescues, bullets, and life risking drama). Kept me captivated all the way through and I can't wait to read the next one. J.D. Tyler is an author to keep an eye on.

Truly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from this author.
The premise of the series has similarities to Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker Series, but it has enough differences that set the series apart and tells its own story. The main difference is that these guys can actually shift into their animal forms.
The interactions between the guys is interesting and the author alludes to future stories with just enough info that you're not sure whats going to happen, but you can't wait to find out.
The romance between the hero and heroine is great and believable. She doesn't fight him to the point that you get aggravated with her, but she's no pushover either.
Looking forward to the next book!

I agree with all the other reviews. It was nice to read about a guy who was completely screwed over by his last love and didn't take up half the story refusing to believe he can get involved with another woman. He tried, but it didn't last long. He also didn't spend lots of time trying to control her and force submission to keep her 'safe'. He let her be a person seperate from himself.
Great action, great characters, and at the end of the book, a great lead-in to the next one. Four stars and two thumbs up.

I'm glad I read the second book first because I don't think I would have continued with the series if I started with this one.

I adored Kira and her spirit but I have to say Jax was too much of a jerk for me in the beginning. Their first time together was really forced. After Kira finds out she has been with other women, which he tries to lie about, she falls into bed with him after a kiss? I spent the whole time reading it feeling it was wrong. The only saving grace was how Kira reacted afterwards.

Despite it all, it wasn't a bad book. Just not as good as the second one.

I should have read this series in order but I didn't so some got a bit confusing for me. But with that aside it was still a great story. Some of my questions got answered like with Kalen, how did he become a member of the pack, what in later books I've read about not mateing will literally will kill the shifter and so many others. Before this one I'd read Micah and Jaycee and know I know why they all put down Jaycee back then when I read the answer in this one. Anyways I would say read in order and you will see how all the pack members dealt with the evil s of the world and how the men all have to dealing with finding the woman that will change their lives.

This was a great book. It has a good plot and the twists and turns made it a read and keep me reading way into the night. I love the way they have gifts that help them fight the bad guys. If you like werewolf books you will love this one.

Great Book! When Kira takes skin samples from the lab she works at she did not realize the chain of events that would happen. Jax was just trying to blow off steam in town when he heard a woman scream. He didn't know that chasing down that scream would bring him right to his future mate. Both however did not want to be tied to a mate.
