The author, Theo Aronson, states from the outset that this book is not a biography of Prince "Eddy", Albert Victor the Duke of Clarence - and yet, it's impossible to see how any biography could be bettered. The Prince's dissipated life is thoroughly explored - all the facts and factors that made him the man he was (possessive mother, distant father, health issues) are discussed. The rent-boy scandal that led to the Prince's inclusion in the homosexual underworld of Victorian England is only one part of this story. Mr. Aronson was a superb writer and brings the time period alive, thoroughly researched but always with a light touch. An excellent read.
