A good story. While the premise is somewhat extraodinary and the outcome somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the read far more than many books recently read. Recommended.

Criminal attorney Amanda Travis is forced to confront her demons when she returns to Toronto to unravel the truth when her mother shoots and kills a complete stranger.
Was really quite good. It had quite a twist at the end..The heroine wasn't very likable at times, but she was humorous..
This is one of those extra long-sized books and I could't put it down. Its a page turner with a mystery, a murder, and a cast of characters that get you involved in the story until you can't believe you are finished with the book. Good reading.
This is a really good book...Joy Fielding unnerves readers with a richly layered page-turner that swings from haunting intrigue to electrifying suspense in the space of a heratbeat...
great suburban thriller

Amanda Travis, a beautiful criminal attorney, is forced to return to Toronto, to deal with her demons and figure out what happened to her mother.
New York Times bestselling author Joy Fielding returns with Puppet, a compelling drama that explores how a woman's search for the truth behind her present-day life leads her to discover the shocking reality that is her past.
Puppet features the beautiful Amanda Travis, a successful twenty-eight-year-old criminal attorney who wins just about every case for her less than admirable clientele. A Florida transplant, Amanda races through her glamorous life, her only concerns being herself, a good bottle of red, and her pristine Palm Beach condominium. Her estranged mother, dead father, two ex-husbands, a love that once consumed her, and countless one-night stands have since lagged far, far behind.
But when ex #1 won't stop calling, Amanda finally gives in. He tells her that her mother shot a man at point-blank range in the lobby of Toronto's Four Seasons hotel. Despite her best arguments, Amanda knows she must return to her hometown to face her demons and uncover the hidden facts behind her mother's violent outburst. All too soon, she is drawn into the dark, strange power her mother seems to hold over everyone. Her childhood nickname, Puppet, echoing in her ears, Amanda must finally confront the past in order to be free of the ties that bind and learn to stand on her own.
Sinister, haunting, and cunningly crafted, Puppet is destined to be Joy Fielding's next blockbuster.

Joy Feeling is the mistress " taut suburban thriller". Now Feeling un-nervers readers with a richly layered page turner that swings from a huanting intrigue to electiring suspense in the space of a heart beat.
Very good, though a little unusual, book about a overly controlling mother and her relationship with her daughter.
This is my favorite Joy Fielding book.
Kept me in suspense, great story, well written.

This book has more twist and turns than any roller coaster ever thought about having. It is an excellent read, and has a plot that even someone who has read lot's and lot's of mysteries, and can usually figure out the "Who Done It", will really be surprised who did!

Fielding always comes through with some unexpected twists that keep her mystries from being run-of-the-mill...
Puppet opens with us meeting Amanda Travis, a main character you certainly are not going to love. She is an up and coming attorney living in Florida who is twice divorced, does not like losing cases, and thinks it is ok to sleep with married men.
Out of the blue, her first ex husband Ben calls from Toronto to tell her that her estranged mother has been arrested for shooting a stranger in the Four Season Hotel and he would like her to come home to help. After much deliberation and some extra heat from past relationships knocking at her door, Amanda decided to take a quick trip home. Ben takes Amanda to see her mother the day after she arrives only to be told that her mom, Gwen does not want any kind of defense. She just wants to plead guilty and take her sentence. Being the attorney that she is, Amanda can't take that as an option so she starts digging around to find out the truth behind the shooting. What Amanda gets is a whole lot more than she bargained for when the truth about her past starts catching up to her and life will never be the same.

Another great read by Joy Fielding...looking forward to her next one. Suspenseful and detailed storyline throughout.
As the book begins, and it's written in the present tense, Amanda is a self-centered, neurotic, young woman. I didn't like her at all and for the first part of the book kept asking myself why I kept on reading.
The reward is found when you keep on reading, and it may be that most other people will be hooked from the first page. The plot has good twists and turns that pull you toward the final pages. This was a really good read!

Joy Fielding is the mistress of the "taut suburban thriller" and
has been writing them for a while! But this one is almost a "keeper"
Keeps you turning the pages and really surprises you at the end!
Takes you from glamourous Palm Beach to Toronto--and they say you can never go home again!
