Set in the post-WWII era, this book follows the adventures of Hal, a former OSS spy. When he returned from several years behind enemy lines, he was virtually ignored, and not treated as the more visible GIs were.

When given the opportunity to work with the FBI to track down a local mob leader, he jumps for it, but purely for his own gain. He then sets himself up as a double agent, seeming to be working for both the FBI and the local mob.

When the big sting operation comes to a head, he and the mob plan their own operation instead, causing Hal more problems. His spy background comes in handy, and leads him to ultimately be victorious over his various foes and be touted as a hero.

A well written book that was easy to read and hard to put down.
