The Burma theater of WW2 gets little attention. It was a "backwater campaign" in most peoples' minds. However, this is a very readable memoir. Although Fraser got into battle late in the war, he saw combat and killed the enemy as they were trying to kill him. His actual combat experience, his writing skill and wonderful command of the language combine to help the reader imagine both the white-knuckled fear of battle, the tedium of waiting for it, and the comic relief that often accompanies it.
I highly recommend this book.
