I've only read one of these and it wasn't what I was expecting. Rather than suspense I found it to be an action thriller with a lot of shooting and being on the run the whole time.  (Secret Agent Minister).

Are they all like this?

Nancy, I haven't read a ton...but I think that in general they want a feeling of suspense and their idea of suspense is fear. So there is always a baddy that you have to be afraid of and the romance is more of a side note. I've found that in some stories it can fill out the story and in some stories it competes with the love story.  Just my two cents. Dolly
