I'm hoping this question hasn't been asked ad nasuem (spelling?!?!), but I looked and didn't see my exact situation.

I found a copy of a fairly recent edition of the Frommers England (travel guide) book at a thrift store and it's in almost new condition EXCEPT that it's missing a map that was a tear-out in the rear of the book. (The book still has the $20 price tag on it.)

There are no missing PAGES in the book, no rips, tears, etc. - the only problem is that tear-out map is gone. (I had a similar guide book for a trip to Britain and you couldn't read the map unless you tore it out first as it was all folded.)

I just don't want to post it if it's a NO-NO because of the missing map. What do you guys think?

THANKS!

-Sarah

I would post it and then when the book gets ordered PM the requestor with the situation.

He/she can always cancel the transaction.

I have many library copies with marks/stickers. I always PM the requestor before I click the 'print' button, giving them opportunity to opt out.

Sarah;  This is a judgement call since maps are not mentioned, but it DID come with the book.  I don't think I would post it.

This is from the Help Center:

  • Books that require supplementary Media materials may be posted
    • supplementary Media materials include CD(s)/CD-ROMs/DVD(s)/VHS tape(s)

if so, the supplementary must accompany the book if the book originally included them

You can certainly offer this book in the Book Bazaar without a deal if you want.  I bet it will be taken!

But, Sarah, you do have a missing page. That map was a page and it is missing. Therefore unpostable.

Please do NOT post unpostable books and then PM the person. What you are saying is that you can break the rules as long as you PM them before you send it. The rules don't say anything about posting and then PM'ng, they say "DON'T POST"

ETA: Not a stupid question, but one that really does have a simple answer :)

one thing to do would be offer if free with any book order off your shelf.  it sounds like a good book besides that map and I'm sure someone out there would want it.

Okay, I am going to NOT post it on my bookshelf, but offer it as a "freebie" sometime when I have another special.

I was leaning towards the map NOT being counted as a missing item or page (it wasn't numbered, etc.) but I think I'd rather be safe than sorry. If one were to buy the book new in a book store, it would have that map. It might not in a used book store, but still - after recently being upset about someone not including a cd with a book that should have been, I'd hate to turn around and do a similiar thing to someone else.

    Thanks guys!

It wasn't numbered but it came with the book, so I would consider it "supplementary media materials."  Offering it in the bazaar is the best way to go.
