I have sent 2 books so far using the dc for the quik credit in mind. I have yet to see these credits come thru...did i do something wrong. How long does it usually take once you put them in the mail..one i put in the mail box the other i took to the PO myself and saw it get scanned.

From the Help Center:

Even though you may have watched the PO clerk scan your barcodes, that doesn't mean that USPS transmitted the data to PBS right then.

  • The data has to go to their central computer first, and then to PBS. The delay involved is variable; our system has no choice but to wait to hear from theirs.

I always use DC, but it seems I never get the quik credit.  The system always waits till my books are marked received before it gives me my credit.  This used to upset me, but now I just wait patiently.  I don't know why DC doesn't work for my account, but I'll still continue to use it for peace of mind that my books are going to the sender and a delivery is confirmed.  I just won't count on using it when I need credits in a hurry.

It's more like quicker credit...and it is  delivery confirmation.  It may not be scanned till it arrives at where ever it is suppose to go.

Have patience!!

Robin -- I see you live in So. Cal. too. I've decided there are no automated scanners anywhere between here and the rest of the country. My packages have "Electronic Shipping Info Received" and then the next thing they get is either "Arrival at Unit" or "Delivered". Then the recipient marks it received before PBS ever gets the delivered scan. I've seen "Accepted", "Pick Up", "En Route", etc. on packages coming to me, but the ones I send don't get any of those.

I ususally take my to the PO and I usually get my credit when it is scanned into the system.  I guess it's different everywhere.  I guess the only thing you can do is be patient.

Many times I don't get the quick credit until my book goes through a central sorting facility in Warrendale PA.  I assume that they have all the latest and greatest equipment there.  Perhaps the sorting facility that your books go through has older equipment.

The strange thing is my inbound books come through Bell, CA, and they all get scanned there. I don't know why my outbound books don't go the same route, but wherever they go, no scans.

I'm fortunate asI use pbs/del conf and always receive my quick credit within 24-36 hours of maling. I take my books to a little rinky-dink town post office.

I'm relatively new to QC, but the books I have sent using it have been mailed from a large downtown PO, where the clerks scan the label (or key it in if it doesn't scan), and I've received credit by the next business day.

What happens when the book you send with DC arrives BEFORE you receive notification fromPBS that the DC was scanned?  Then the E-mail from PBS says "you have already received credit for this book.....". when you really haven't. Does this make sense? Has it happened to anyone else?   M'ann

Double check your Club Communications page to make sure you don't have an earlier notice about the book saying that you got credit. If you really don't have one, then you should definitely send a feedback.

On mine where the requestor marks it received before the scans, I get the regular "your box xxx just earned you a credit" notice. Then I go look at the Transaction Archive sometime later, and the details will have the Delivery scan.

I'm also in SoCal-- in my experience,  about 80% of the time, the DC is scanned at the Bell, CA distribution center within 1-2 days of posting to a mailbox, and then the credit shows up in my account within the next 24 hours. The remaining 20% are missed at Bell but usually get scanned somewhere along the way.

There was one fluke experience where the scan wasn't registered by PBS-- I could see the scan history at the USPS website, but not here at PBS. I contacted the site operators via the feedback button below-- they gave me the credit and said it was a very rare bug...

Thanks guys.  At least I now know I'm not crazy and not the only one who doesn't get a "quick credit" when using DC.  =)

It's hit or miss for me on outgoing.

Some get scanned in Springfield, MA.

Some get scanned along the way.

And some don't get scanned until delivery.

The one I dropped in an APC last week took a full week to be scanned at a local distribution center.  A week later and it's only just starting on its journey!  It's to a new member - I hope she doesn't think I marked it mailed and then didn't mail it for a week.  Anyway, I just kind of figured I wouldn't get the credit until it was marked in as received - or scanned as delivered.

OTOH, the one I dropped off at the counter showed up the next morning, just as the Help Center said it would.
