The unique wrinkle in this story is that it takes place in Canada with the Mounties, which is unusual. Rose Lambert is the daughter of a wealthy and powerful lawyer in Ottawa, who wants his daughter to marry a law partner. The young partner is not above resorting to assault to get his way. However, Rose is made of sterner stuff and plots to escape her privileged life and marry a Mountie. Of course, her family finds her and tries to force her back to her previous life.
This story moved quickly, and it featured many great characters. This is at least the third book I've read by this author, and she is getting better. I must admit that I read this book despite the awful front cover.
