Detective Brody Phillips thought that staying in a seaside town would provide some respite from his usual daily routine of being a detective in New York City. However, he saves his lovely neighbors life one day when a masked man attacks her in her home. The clue he leaves behind is a small kitchen timer that ticks.
The book is barely novel length, but the author does a great job of sustaining the suspense. Theres more action than romance here. When other people are found dead in their homes with kitchen timers nearby, Brody and the local sheriff fear the work of a serial killer. The story intensifies when Brody realizes that the killer has followed him from New York.
The romance between Brody and Madison is practically nonexistent here, and unrealistic to boot. You dont fall in love in a matter of hours or days, and especially not when your emotions are out of control because youre afraid. However, the book does well as a suspense novel.
