ISBN 1887942238 - The Hooked on Phonics books in the Kindergarten level set might turn out to be the most interesting, if not the best.

The text is very simple, with very small words for beginning readers. Barney Saltzberg, author and illustrator, makes an interesting choice when he brings Cat and Rat, characters we first met in ISBN 188794222X Cat (Hooked on Phonics, Book 1), to Rag's book. If he follows this pattern through the entire 15 books he wrote for the Kindergarten level Hooked on Phonics set, I'll be impressed. I'm still not impressed, however, by Saltzberg's coloring page like images.
