great historical mystery- this is 2nd in a series. The setting is during the 1920's in India , at the end of the British rule...the Raj. The main character is a detective who had been a military officer in the British army. "Filled with intrigue, suspense, and characters skilled in the art of deception...perfect for historical mystery fans" - Booklist

Excellent descriptions of the time, locale and social mores of British Colonial India. The central character, however, does not have the attitudes of his time and nationality. Rather, he reflects more of a 21st century view of the Indians he encounters. That seems unlikely to be realistic but is easier on our eyes and is less distracting from the stoyr line.

This is the second in a series of mysteries set in colonial India in the time of the Raj. I have read the first, also, and plan to read the rest---they are really very good with interesting well-rounded characters in a setting that I find fascinating, though now it is long-gone. I would heartily recommend them!
