  Rain in July

When a dark brooding
Storm lingers
then falls with a thundering
Boom!
It’s hard to imagine
things could be different anywhere,
in any town.
Surely the first fat drop falls
with a distinct
Ping!
rising in pitch
until a flurry of
musical beads pour
onto scorched, dust caked
streets
soaking up the
sadness,
the disappointment
felt here in this
place
Under these
Blue-black clouds,
In our town.

You really evoke the atmosphere/mood just before rain, which I personally love. There is something magical and brooding about that moment which you've described perfectly.
