I received my first unpostable books today.  I got both from the same sender and they both have some water damage.  The water/liquid damage is not extensive but definitely there.  The packaging was torn to pieces too but the liquid damage was definitely before.  You can tell it is old damage.  I feel really bad about reporting it and asking for my credits back, but it is clearly against PBS rules.

Am I crazy to feel bad?  Was it wrong to ask for my credits back?

I understand feeling bad, but you are not AT ALL wrong for asking for your credit back.

Am I crazy to feel bad? Sorta, because it's not your fault, it is theirs. But I understand, I'd feel bad too. Just remember that the system only works if people report it and ask for the credits back. People that go unreported without consequences can keep sending out bad books.

Was it wrong to ask for my credits back? No, and I hope they refund you.

In the past when I received unpostable conditioned books, I just let it go and not say anything to the sender.  Over time, it has grown into a pretty good size pile of books and it is starting to bug me.  Now I say, go for it and ask for your credit back.  Sending out postable books has become somewhat of a problem here and steps do need to be taken to stop it.  I'll be doing the same thing in the future myself.  Good luck on getting your refund back!

If the book is damaged because of poor wrapping, I don't usually report it with a problem. I do pm the member and let them know where they can find proper wrapping instructions though. 2 of them have been kind enough to return my credit which I didn't even ask for. Books damaged before being shipped are always marked received wit problem. It really doesn't take that long to check a book and make sure it meets PBS guidelines.

I just received my first damaged book on Saturday.  I too felt bad for reporting it and asking for my credit back.  The book was packaged with 2 other books that were received in just fine condition.  The sender refunded my credit right away and said they must have missed it.

I still have no had a reply to my pm.  I was not going to ask for my credit if they were new, but they are not.  I don't know if I will even get a response.  Oh well, at least I tried!

I just SENT a damaged book, and I'm sure I felt worse than the receiver!!! He didn't ask for his credit back, and said not to worry, but it took me all of about 30 seconds to have him on my buddy list, and a credit sent his way!

I checked the book to make sure all the pages were nice, no tears, stains, scribbles (it was  a kids book), the cover was good, no water, etc, etc, EXCEPT I didn't notice that a few pages were completely MISSING!!! I made sure all the ones that were there were good, I just didn't think to make sure they were ALL THERE!!!

No, you shouldn't feel bad for asking for your credit back. Even if it was an honest mistake, like mine, you are not at fault, and they should give you your credit back. It keeps us all honest, in my opinion, if we have the check & balance system in place and we all use it. I try really hard to make sure my books are good, but I can make a mistake, and I don't mind owning up and paying my dues (or credit as the case may be :)

I have been here almost a year and I just received my second damaged book. The first time I got one, I let it go. But this time I decided not to. The book was well wrapped in plastic, so I know the stains on the outside edges of the pages were there before. It just looks so gross that I know I will just be throwing it away. I reported the problem and she sent my credit back, but it upsets me that she didn't even apologize. I once sent a book that had highlighting in it that I didn't know about and I felt sooo bad. I apologized profusely. I wonder if she knew it before she sent the book??

I still can't even get a response at all.  So I guess I am out my credits.  I'm glad you got your credit back.

Well, I think I got my answer.  I went to check and see when I pm'd the sender.  I clicked on the name and now the person has 0 books posted.   I guess I didn't have to feel too guilty :o)  Oh well, you win some you lose some!

Thanks!!

Since I'm the one who sent Taryndesign the book she/he was uphappy with I would just like to say that I have sent out over 265 books and this is the first book that has been considered unpostable.  I posted a credit within 24 hour.  I obviously thought it was in okay condition (the book was published in 1999) but I gave back the credit.  Why I am the bad guy?

I don't think you are a bad guy at all.  I think mistakes are going to happen.  We are all human.  I respect that fact that you gave the credit back.  I would be thrilled if I got my two credits back.  I'd be thrilled for one but my sender has not even acknowledged me.  I think you did the right thing!

So, keep on sending those books!!

I just received my second damaged book.  This is the second on in a week.  I guess I am just not having very good luck this week.  I just notified the new person last night so I am waiting to see what happens.  The new book I received had water damage as well as a tear over 2 inches long on the cover that had been taped.

Well the sender of the second book just buddied me a credit back.  I never received a response to  my message other than the credit.  I am guessing that I offended her which was not my intention.  She has only been a member for a few months so I kind of feel bad but the book conditions as far as I am concerned are very clear.

I had one person send me a book wrapped in Saran wrap with the mailing label taped on.  It was broken in half and in terrible condition.  I wrote her about it and her response was to thank me for letting her know and something to the effect of, "Gee, I'll never do that again!"  No offer to return my credit.   When someone is that dumb, you almost want to give them a cookie and ask them to go away.
