Wow read! A science fiction romance with an action packed plot - so much suspense that you want to cancel niddling little details in your real life [work, school, eating...] so you can finish it. Of course, then you want there to be more! Great lead characters and supporting characters, each wears their own 'face' very well. These are people you feel you know, people you admire and respect throughout the book. The love story is outstanding...

Although it is part of the Dock Five series - it can be read as a stand alone. Of course if you do, you will immediately go out and search for the others...

This is a book that stands enough on it's own that I think you will be OK reading it without reading the first three books. Past characters make very small cameos or are talked about while they are off-screen, but aren't the vital to the story.

The world building in this book is what I expect from Sinclair now - it's seamless. She makes it look easy and believable. The action too is well paced. It's a game of chase as Devin and friends stay ahead of whoever is following them, while trying to learn as much as possible why the bad guys are so interested in Trip, Devin's nephew, and cause of all the trouble.

Since I have a soft spot for geeks, I liked the hero, Devin's character. He's not comfortable in social situations, but he's good at his job as a senior analyst at his firm. His geekiness does not mean he's weak or incapable. The only big problem he has is knowing how to tell Makaiden that she means something to him. Devin thinks that Makaiden is married and in love with her husband Kiler. Meanwhile Makaiden believes that her low beginnings would repel Devin an the rest of his family. This is where all the romantic conflict stems. I understood Devin's point of view, but I got a little tired of Makaiden being so easy to jump to conclusions before talking to Devin.

Overall: It felt like classic Linnea Sinclair so it was what I expected and wanted to read. A straightforward science fiction romance, with the emphasis on a relationship amid action packed space opera. No frills added. Despite wishing the ending wasn't so abrupt, I enjoyed this one.

Futuristic/ Sci-Fi romance by Linnea Sinclair. This is the fourth book in the Dock 5 series, and follow-up to Hope's Folly. Phillip's computer/ numbers genius brother Devin, veers from the expected when he takes off off to rescue his nephew, Trip. When he finds Trip, he also finds the woman he's always loved, Makaiden Griggs. He's always loved her, but she was married. Now, she's in debt, and down on her luck. Makaidan has always liked and respected Devin, but was married when she worked for the Guthrie family. Now she's widowed, but realizes that she and Guthrie are from different worlds. The couple, with a little help, have to get Trip to safety. Accept, things are not as they should be at the Guthrie compound. The author truly knows how to write a romance. The build-up is sweet. She also uses a few plot devices that she's used in previous books. The identity of the Bad Guys wasn't hard to figure out. Great installment to the series. Love the book.
