I didn't need this book because of a loss of a loved one, which is the typical thought when one hears "grief". Rather, based on the recommendation of a friend going through a similar situation (recovery from child abuse) I read it to learn about recovering from the loss that occured to me as a result of my abusive childhood: loss of innocence, loss of familial relationships that are positive, loss of safety and loss of self-worth. I especially appreicated his discussion of what attritubes allow a person to sucessfully survive grief of any kind. I feel like anyone who has gone through any kind of difficult time or situation in life would find this book useful. Or, if you are in close relationship to a person going through grief this would be a valuable resource as it discusses what to say this person and how to respond to their grief. There is a discussion of the stages of grief and specific help on how to respond to each stage.
