Maxie travels to Hawaii to help out a friend, and becomes tangled in a convoluted mystery. The best part of this story is the description of the Hawaiian landscape, flowers, and birds. The plot is weaker than her previous stories in this series, but it's still a fun read.

Well written. Kept my interest. Characters are realistic. An enjoyable series. I missed Stretch in this one!
A quick read for a summer's day. Sue Henry does a good job of bringing her reader along for the ride and solving the mystery. Looking forward to the rest in this series.

I enjoy reading about Maxie and her mini-dachshund, Stretch. This time the story takes place in Hawaii so Maxie can not take Stretch with her but the story moves along at a fairly fast pace. I especially enjoy the description of the Hawaiian locale.
I like this book and could not put it down.I did not find this book to be as interesting as her other 4. I

Once again Sue Henry brought it home for me! This book 3 was better than the first two and I loved the first two. I was blown away by the wonderful descriptions of Hawaii. Ive been there before but wasn't able to take in as much as I would have liked, but I felt like I have after reading this. She really did her homework on The Refuge and it was FANTASTIC. Not to mention the beautiful cover on this book. I think its the prettiest Ive ever seen. This book had an awesome who-dunit, I did NOT figure out who was doing terrible things till the very end. If you have read books 1 and 2, you must read this one. It is the BEST so far, and now on to the last, book 4, The Long Road Home, where Maxie travels back to her home, Alaska. I will be very sad to see this series end, :(, I didn't get a vacation this year, and each book made me feel just like I have been on one. New Mexico, Hawaii, Colorado, Alaska and everything in between. What an adventure, I LOVE Maxie and Stretch, though Stretch, her weenie dog, isn't involved in this quest to Hawaii. They wouldn't allow him entry into the islands, due to possible rabies, which he didn't have but its the law.
