So I thought I would pick this book up and just read a few chapters as a diversion from my other books. I ended up finishing the book in 24 hours. This is great 18th century military fiction and I'm glad this is only volume three in an eleven-volume (so far) series.

While it helps to know your 18th century history of events in many locations---so far the hero has been in various parts of Europe, American and India---such knowledge is not required.

A good part of volume three deals with the Luddite movement in early-industrial Britain.
