Charlotte Mandeville's father died suddenly, and the family of three daughters and mother is struggling to stay afloat. Charlotte starts drawing caricatures for money that are displayed at the local pub. Anthony Yorke goes to that pub to get a hidden diary from an informant. He needs it to prove his brother did not kill someone.
However, Charlotte finds it instead and hopes to use it for more caricatures. Anthony must retrieve it, and he knows who has it. However, when he demands it back, Charlotte has a strange request. Invite the Mandevilles to a party, where the young ladies will have an opportunity to meet young men. He must also attend and give credence to the suitability of the Mandeville ladies for spouses.
