Take a deep breath.

I have yet to receive a RWAP book.  I noticed in your sig that you are looking for books that are a couple decades old.  Is your recent string of RWAPs for older books?  Perhaps the senders think that the book is just old as opposed to unpostable.

I think you're having a run of bad luck with books and snotty senders who don't want to admit their mistakes - in other words, it doesn't sound like it's you.  Mark 'em unresolved and give the monitor the one-fingered salute if it makes you feel better.  The majority of swaps really aren't this way, PBS doesn't exaggerate the matter when they say that.  Sometimes it seems like when it rains, it pours though.  My RWAPs never come in clusters like that (knock on wood:P), but I know of several people who have been through the same thing you're going through now.  Venting here to other people who can relate probably helps more than anything.

Yeah, it's like let's shoot the messenger who is the bearer of bad news.  Maybe you just always expect a nastgram and handle it as politely as you can.

The older books can be fragile and it may be possible that the spine cracked after it was mailed.

Thank you both! I apologize for the preschool tantrum. I don't know what came over me.

As far as the cracked book with the missing page goes, the sender indicated that she had received it like that and I should just be happy to get it. Ugh!

I can understand meltdowns when you get responses like that. I resently got a couple with the same kind of answers on one book with what looks someone bled on it ("I got it that way and I was fine with reading it") and one with noticeable water damage and fairly extensive staining/soiling on the edge of the book (be happy I sent you such an expensive book..you must be a book collector if you're that fussy...). GGRR. Makes you just want to spit when they sent such hogwash. My husband gets to listen to all my rants :)

When I do finally get my first RWAP I'm not going to add my usual Sig "Dan (for Marilyn)".

That way, the nastygram will be directed at Marilyn.  But she won't see it!  I will remain calm, polite, and detached.  So everyone will be happy except the person who sent the unpostable.

I've already chosen my wording.  This is from Lesley H.

Thank you for sending X book.  I am so sorry to have to mark it RWAP, but (fill in the blank with a description of the problem).  Unfortunately, this means that the book does not meet PBS posting guidelines, and I will not be able to repost the book, so I would appreciate a refund of my credit.  I would be happy to send the book back to you if you would like to cover postage with an additional credit- just let me know if you would like to do that.  I will be sure to promptly mark the problem transaction as resolved in the PBS system upon the return of my original credit.  Thanks for understanding, and please PM me if you have any questions.
