This is not your typical Lisa Samson book (she is my favorite author) and it is so good in a completely different way! She captured the the older man, Claudius', voice wonderfully. There were also some tense moments when the main character travels to Africa, but she sets the moment without being so intense you don't want to read about it. I would highly recommend this book and all of her others. My favorite is The Passion of Mary Margaret.

I always say Lisa Samson writes the way I think in my head.

This book is one that you will not be able to put down until you have finished. The tragedy that May suffers through will bring tears to your eyes, but will also make you think of how others carry tragedy around that you never realize. Some of the people May meets along her journey you will love and others you will question their motives.

The ending will not be what you are expecting, but you will love it.
