When I started this, I wasn't sure it was for me, but by the time I was finished, I didn't want it to end. Told from the point of view of many characters, but that worked really well and brought the story together. Very intense at times and a bit graphic, but I really liked it.
This book is written in an interesting style. Every few pages, the point of view switches to a different character at a different point in time. It jumps around a lot, but after a while, you begin to see a storyline coming together. I enjoyed the book, and actually couldn't put it down for 2 days until it was finished. There are some violent scenes, but nothing too horrible. Definitely a bit of a thriller.
This was the darkest of Maxted's books that I've read. The themes of child abuse are just too graphic and disturbing for me. I did not enjoy this book at all. I was relieved when I finished.
I am a big fan of Anna's light chic lit. This book is not the same genre. This book made me want to call Anna and beg her to write more of the same. She weaves a story that kept me guessing, that made me physically unable to tear my eyes away from the pages. I HAD to know what would happen next! I absolutely loved it and hope she will come out with more chic thrillers!
