I've been looking for a good series with a mermaid type of scenario and I thought this might be it since it had such great reviews. I found it sadly disappointing. The writing is very juvenile. It honestly reads like the kind of stories I wrote while in High School. Although not horrible, the voice sounds younger than what the age of what the characters really are. Sara is supposed to be 19. She's not old, but she acted and spoke like she was 13. Xanthus did not sound like a 2000 year old immortal. His language made him sound like some sort of high school jock. With the rest of the characters, they all sounded as one dimensional as Sara and Xanthus. That right there was a huge turn off for me. I almost gave up at 54%, but I had some burning questions that I really wanted answered. Sadly, none of them were answered. No backstory into Sara was given. She had a fin, some doctors wanted to cut it off, she hides it in spandex, and that's it. Well what about the rest of her. Is she anatomically correct in other parts of her body? If her legs are fused (I'm assuming) how does she pee? I'm assuming she must have some girly parts because she mentions having a period once a year (that no one seemed to think was strange). It just seemed quite a bit of information seemed to be lacking.

I did download the 2nd book, but I'm in no hurry to get to it right now.
