Humphrey's first novel was The Mendelian Threshold, a science fiction thriller which received critical reviews in Kirkus Reviews. It earned Humphrey ForeWord's "Book of the Year Award".

Humphrey then switched to the juvenile literature genre to produce his next four titles: The Christmas Poodle (2002), The Christmas Tree House (2003), The Christmas Poodle Christmas Wish (2004), and The Christmas Poodle - The Christmas Promise (2005).

As a poet, Humphrey is credited with having been published in The Anthology of American Poetry..

As a journalist, Humphrey has written numerous magazine and news articles for The Dallas-Ft. Worth Medical Journal and Charisma Magazine.

Humphrey was born in Perryton, Texas, in 1947, and graduated high school in 1965. He pursued a degree in Music Education at West Texas State University and The University of Kansas, complimenting his education in Business at Central State University , and Methodist College (Fayetteville, NC) where he was a broadcaster with WQTI-FM radio.
